Join the dots fail|

For reasons that I’m yet to discover, the star-trails in today’s photo aren’t quite continuous lines. Instead, they’re dotted lines with noticeable breaks between the segments. Two hundred and sixty-two photos were taken and composited using the free “StarStaX” application, with the intention being that the software’s “gap filling” mode would make those dotted lines into arcs of light. There is less than one second between successive photos, which should result in a small gap that the software can cope with quite well, as it’s done for previous such efforts. The plot thickens, as they say in the classics.
The lookout where I captured the images is known as the “Warris Chair”, in the Budderoo National Park, Australia. It’s about a ninety-minute drive from my home and I’ll certainly be visiting there again throughout the year.
Created from 262 single images, each shot with Canon EOS 6D, Samyang 14mm XP II lens @ f/2.8, 25 sec @ ISO 1600.
